Physical Activity Among School Age Children

Physical Activity Among School Age Children I am taking a gander at physical action among school ages kids K-12. Physical Education projects and break are being cut the nation over, with the goal that additional time and can be spent on expanding test scores. Its a well known fact that, todays kids are considerably less dynamic than in past ages and their wellbeing is enduring because of their absence of movement. I need to make a review, or attempt to consolidate ones that as of now have been utilized, to evaluate how children feel towards physical movement. I likewise am keen on their assessments on what kinds of exercises they might want to do in physical instruction classes. Research questions: I imagine that if kids were enabled to pick the exercises offered in Physical Education class, they will be all the more effectively associated with the movement since they picked it. I imagine that whenever given the decision, children will pick way of life exercises rather than group activities, which is the current mainstream focal point of physical training. There will be no distinction in the measure of physical action between downtown children and country kids. Theoretical There is a plague preparing in this nation now, with the absence of physical movement among youngsters and grown-ups. This absence of action has lead to an exponential increment in weight related sicknesses. The absence of physical movement is being jumbled by school regions that are cutting break and physical training programs. Now almost 40% of American grade schools either dispensed with or were thinking about wiping out break [1]. It has been archived commonly that absence of physical movement prompts a decline in the personal satisfaction for the individual not participating in any physical action. The CDC found that the measure of TV that kids observe legitimately corresponds with the proportions of their muscle versus fat [1]. I feel that youngsters ought to be given a voice in what kinds of physical action they might want to do in school since it is to their advantage to work out. Presentation Its an obvious fact that there is a significant issue with stoutness in America today. One of the greatest contributing variables to this pandemic is the absence of physical movement in youngsters. I view myself as more dynamic than the majority of my friends in any case; even I attempted to do all the necessities for the presidential wellness test in grade school exercise center class. Today, 66% of American youngsters cannot pass a fundamental physical: 40 percent of young men and 70 percent of young ladies ages six to seventeen cannot oversee more than one-pull-up; and 40% give early indications of heart and course issues, as per an ongoing report by the Presidents Council on Physical Fitness and Sports [1]. Something beyond an absence of generally physical movement, kids today are considerably more liable to be found inside. At the point when fourth graders were inquired as to why they play inside instead of outside, one reacted by saying I like to play inside better reason that is the place all the electrical outlets are [1]. In spite of the fact that it might have consistently been the situation, today it appears lawmakers are the ones who are choosing what is extremely significant in schools and what ought to be forgotten about. There is a fixation going on right now about improving math and science test scores. To build class time for these subjects the schools are removing break and physical training classes. This accentuation has prompted numerous schools dropping their break projects and decreasing their Physical instruction time to an insignificant. An educator was gotten some information about the Physical Education of her understudies at the school where she worked, in which she reacted that with all the testing in schools there is no time for physical training, not to mention investigating the outside. In one of my kindergarten classes, the children get the chance to hurry to a fence and afterward run back. That is their PE [1]. I have been not able to find any proof that show scores on math and science tests have expanded because of additional time spent in the class. I have gone over numerous papers asserting understudies that are more physical dynamic have higher grades than understudies who don't, however I have not discovered any logical proof to demonstrate these cases. Without logical evidence I can just anticipate that understudies that are physical dynamic will have higher grades dependent on close to home understanding. I realize that the more truly dynamic I am the better I feel managing the worries of school life. The purpose of this investigation is to discover how we as a general public can increment physical action levels in kids. It is amazingly baffling to me to consider how kids today don't be able to have break and blow of some pressure that has developed through the span of the day. I know from individual experience that break was a pleasant time for me and I was amped up for what kind of non-organized action my companions and I would do that do at break. I don't have a clue why it doesn't stun more individuals yet I can hardly imagine how more isn't being done over the way that todays kids will have a shorter life expectancy than their folks age. On the off chance that my investigation finds that children are increasingly disposed to pick way of life exercises in PE class rather than group activities, I feel that ought to be considered on a national level. Physical movement levels should be expanded paying little mind to the area of the school (downtown versus rustic). Three research inquiries specifically noteworthy to me are; 1) I believe that if kids were enabled to pick the exercises offered to them during Physical instruction class, they will be all the more effectively engaged with the action since they had a job in choosing it. 2) I imagine that whenever given the decision, children will pick way of life exercises instead of group activities, which is by all accounts the focal point of physical instruction today. 3) I additionally think there will be no distinction in the measure of physical action between downtown children and rustic children. I will choose schools from Northeastern Pennsylvania. I need to choose schools that speak to a wide range of salary levels. To choose the schools I will straightforward draw a quadrant over the province of Pennsylvania, if the school locale falls in the Northeast area, an overview will be sent to that school. I will at that point consider the area of that school by postal district and ensure that I have a fair prop ortion of rustic and downtown schools. I am doing this to figure out what relationship the territory wherein the youngsters live has on their degrees of physical movement. Survey of the Literature Creators Jan Fenczyn and Czeslaw Szmigiel led an investigation to decide mentalities towards physical action among young ladies and young men with basic stoutness. Their examination found that the perspectives of the youngsters towards necessary physical activities and dynamic development outside of school were tried by methods for a unique poll created by the creators. The consequences of the examination show that overweight youngsters of both genders endeavor all the more regularly to maintain a strategic distance from physical action (development) than their non-corpulent companions, both during physical training classes and outside school. Sex ended up being a factor that separated mentalities towards physical movement. Practically absolute shirking of physical movement by large young ladies as contrasted and fat young men was watched. The young men to a more prominent degree than the young ladies engaged in physical exercise. The aftereffects of the exploration show the need for expanded communication to reinforce inspiration to take up physical exercises by large understudies, especially young ladies. What is likewise worth considering is ones potential for physical wellness among youngsters while picking exercises, which gets constrained because of existing stoutness [2]. It has been resolved from writing surveys of friend assessed writing that intercessions concentrating on expanding movement performed during physical training were more powerful than those focusing on by and large degrees of physical action. Methodologies to advance action during puberty are expected to battle the decrease in action during the change from school to work [3]. The measure of time understudies take an interest fluctuates, contingent upon the school locale. There is likewise a variety among grade levels, on the measure of time required in Physical Education. An examination distributed in the SportsMed Journal found that, PE times extend broadly from 30 minutes to 5 hours/week in the lower school levels, yet in numerous secondary schools, PE isn't required during of the last 2-3 years of instruction. Minor changes in accordance with current PE as well as school based PA programs have yielded an assortment of potential momentary advantages. Comparative with customary PE, it has been seen in grade 9 young ladies that PE classes that were arranged toward individual wellness guidance (applied PE) brought about a decline of stationary conduct 1 year later. Different projects brought about an upgrade of school soul, expanded member confidence, more prominent scholarly advancement, lightening of learning incapacities, transient enhancement in differ ent segments of physical wellness, improved major engine abilities and a decreased danger of adolescent wrongdoing. School PE mediations have additionally been utilized to control pulse, and cardiovascular hazard factors, and to expand bone mass in both pre-pubescent kids and early pubertal young ladies. Be that as it may, not the entirety of the advantages guaranteed are reported by very much planned trial examines. Moreover, various controlled examinations of PE programs have discovered little contrast in muscle versus fat among trial and control gatherings. One examination demonstrated that one extra week after week hour of PE during kindergarten was related with a reduction of weight record (BMI) the accompanying school year in an example of American overweight and marginal schools overweight young ladies. Nonetheless, in young ladies with satisfactory BMI or in young men, no such impact was estimated [4]. A significant examination that was assessed by Francois Trudeau and Roy. Shephard was The Trois-Rivieres Growth and Development study. For this development and developme

High School Term Paper Help - Finding Help For Writing Papers

High School Term Paper Help - Finding Help For Writing PapersAre you having a hard time writing your high school term paper? Are you looking for high school term paper help? If so, you're not alone. This is one of the most difficult academic subjects to write because it requires being able to think and connect with specific types of students as well as understanding the different types of format in which high school papers are written. One of the first things you need to do if you're working on a student's paper is to find out what type of student they are. In other words, what type of grades they receive? Sometimes students who are getting lower grades than other students tend to write better papers than other students.Since this is a term paper, a good idea is to get a copy of the homework that their teachers assigned, and then start creating a template that can be used for that same kind of assignment. After you get a list of questions and answers, this will allow you to check that you are going to have all the information needed to be able to write a grade-appropriate term paper.Once you find out what the student's type of paper is, you can start going through each topic with them. To get a good feel for what type of subject this is, start by telling them what they would be doing, and ask them what their answer is.For example, if they are going to talk about math, or maybe English, you may need to write an essay or report that covers the different topics of the paper. Even if it is just a word-for-word copy, you need to give yourself a little space for questions and answers. They should always be clear and concise, but not too long.Once you've decided what the topics are, you can start working on your template. Using this template allows you to create a short outline for your paper, allowing you to cut and paste the information you need to include. It also allows you to include your own data as well. This gives you the freedom to provide all the information y ou want and has become increasingly important since teachers are beginning to write more of their own assessments than the traditional tests. It gives them the option to include any important data that will reflect on their writing ability to understand and use the subject matter.

Compare and Contrast Hitler and Mussolini free essay sample

League of Nations The League of Nations (LON) was an inter-governmental organization founded as a result of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919–1920, and the precursor to the United Nations. At its greatest extent from 28 September 1934 to 23 February 1935, it had 58 members. The Leagues primary goals, as stated in its Covenant, included preventing war through collective security, disarmament, and settling international disputes through negotiation and arbitration. 1] Other goals in this and related treaties included labor conditions, just treatment of native inhabitants, trafficking in persons and drugs, arms trade, global health, prisoners of war, and protection of minorities in Europe. [2] The diplomatic philosophy behind the League represented a fundamental shift in thought from the preceding hundred years. The League lacked its own armed force and so depended on the Great Powers to enforce its resolutions, keep to economic sanctions which the League ordered, or provide an ar my, when needed, for the League to use. Sanctions could also hurt the League members, so they were reluctant to comply with them. When, during the Second Italo-Abyssinian War, the League accused Benito Mussolinis soldiers of targeting Red Cross medical tents, Mussolini responded that Ethiopians were not fully human, therefore the human rights laws did not apply. Benito Mussolini stated that The League is very well when sparrows shout, but no good at all when eagles fall out. [3] After a number of notable successes and some early failures in the 1920s, the League ultimately proved incapable of preventing aggression by the Axis powers in the 1930s. In May 1933, Franz Bernheim, a Jew, complained that his rights as a minority were being violated by the German administration of Upper Silesia, which induced the Germans to defer enforcement of the anti-Jewish laws in the region for several years until the relevant treaty expired in 1937, whereupon they simply refused to renew the Leagues authority further and renewed anti-Jewish persecution. 4] Hitler claimed these clauses violated Germanys sovereignty. Germany withdrew from the League, soon to be followed by many other aggressive powers. The onset of World War II showed that the League had failed its primary purpose, which was to avoid any future world war. The United Nations replaced it after the end of the war and inherited a number of agencies and organizations founded by the League.

John Cabot Essays - Age Of Discovery, John Cabot, Navigators

John Cabot John Cabot, an Italian mariner, was born in Genoa, Italy around the year 1450. He worked as a trader in what is now called the Middle East. He moved to England in 1484 with his three sons, Ludovico, Sebastiano, and Sancto and gained experience as a seaman. On his commercial journeys, which took him to the shores of Arabia, he heard of the countries rich in spices that lay to the Far East and wanted to find a better route to the Orient. John Cabot set out to get patents from the monarchs of Spain and Portugal to obtain support for his voyage. However, both turned him down. Finally, King Henry VII granted Cabot and his three sons the right to seek islands and countries of the West, with a small ship named Matthew and a crew of 18 men. So he set sail from Bristol, England in May 2, 1497. Cabot never got to China by sea. Almost two months later, John Cabot discovered the island of Newfoundland on June 24, 1497. This was the first documented voyage to Newfoundland. Many people believe he landed at Cape Bonavista. He thought he had reached a small island off the coast of Asia. On June 26th, Cabot began his return voyage because of bad weather and no food. He returned without any spices or treasure but he received a warm welcome regardless. He did return with mapped out details of the North American coast. He was granted another patent on February 3, 1498, and this allowed him to embark on a second expedition. This was made up of five ships and three hundred men, and set sail some time before July 25, 1498. King Henry VII only granted him one ship but 4 merchants hoping to cash in on a new route to Orient provided the other 4 ships. They first went north, apparently as far as possible; drifting ice forced them to turn. They sailed along the east coast of North America past Newfoundland, which Cabot named Bacallaos, and as far as Cape Hatteras. John Cabot also may have reached the Hudson Bay on his expedition to the North West Passage. Later he also explored the Rio de la Plata region of Brazil for the Spanish. In 15448 he became governor of a joint stock company in England with he negotiated a commercial treaty with Russia. This company, later called The Muscovy Company, was the first major English joint-stock trading company and financed trading expeditions to Russia and Asia. Cabot was paid cash for discovering Newfoundland. He was also given a pension. He only collected that pension once. It is believed he drowned at sea. Nevertheless, his discoveries guarantee John Cabot a place among the greatest discoverers. In fact, they are still celebrating his discoveries. The Cabot Tower was built on Signal Hill in St. John's in 1897. It was built to mark the 400th anniversary of Cabot's discovery.

Hadrosaurus, the First Identified Duck-Billed Dinosaur

Hadrosaurus, the First Identified Duck-Billed Dinosaur Like many fossil discoveries from the 1800s, Hadrosaurus is simultaneously a very important and a very obscure dinosaur. It was the first near-complete dinosaur fossil  ever to be discovered in North America (in 1858, in Haddonfield, New Jersey, of all places), and in 1868, the Hadrosaurus at the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences was the first dinosaur skeleton ever to be displayed to the general public. Hadrosaurus has also given its name to an extremely populous family of herbivores- the hadrosaurs, or duck-billed dinosaurs. Celebrating this history, New Jersey named Hadrosaurus its official state dinosaur in 1991, and the sturdy lizard is frequently invoked in attempts to pump up the Garden States paleontology pride. What  Was Hadrosaurus Really Like? This was a robustly built dinosaur, measuring about 30 feet from head to tail and weighing anywhere from three to four tons, and it probably spent most of its time crouched on all fours, chomping on the low-lying vegetation of its late Cretaceous habitat in North America. Like other duck-billed dinosaurs, Hadrosaurus would have been capable of rearing up on its two hind legs and running away when startled by hungry tyrannosaurs, which must have been a stressful experience for any smaller dinosaurs lurking nearby!  This dinosaur almost certainly lived in small herds, females laying 15 to 20 large eggs at a time in circular patterns, and the adults may even have engaged in a minimal level of parental care.  (However, bear in mind that the bill of Hadrosaurus and other dinosaurs like it wasnt really flat and yellow, like that of a duck, but it did have a vague resemblance.) Still, as far as duck-billed dinosaurs in general are concerned, Hadrosaurus itself occupies the far fringes of paleontology. To date, no one has discovered this dinosaurs skull; the original  fossil, named by the famous American paleontologist Joseph Leidy, consists of four limbs, a pelvis, bits of the jaw, and over two dozen vertebrae. For this reason, recreations of Hadrosaurus are based on the skulls of similar genera of duck-billed dinosaurs, such as Gryposaurus. To date, Hadrosaurus appears to be the only member of its genus (the sole named species is H. foulkii), leading some paleontologists to speculate that this hadrosaur may really be a species (or specimen) of another genus of duck-billed dinosaur.   Given all this uncertainty, it has proven rather difficult to assign Hadrosaurus to its proper place on the hadrosaur family tree. This dinosaur was once honored with its own sub-family, the Hadrosaurinae, to which better-known (and more highly ornamented) duck-billed dinosaurs like Lambeosaurus were once assigned. Today, though, Hadrosaurus occupies a single, lonely branch on evolutionary diagrams, one step removed from such familiar genera as Maiasaura, Edmontosaurus and Shantungosaurus, and today not many paleontologists reference this dinosaur in their publications. Name: Hadrosaurus (Greek for sturdy lizard); pronounced HAY-dro-SORE-us Habitat: Woodlands of North America Historical Period: Late Cretaceous (80-75 million years ago) Size and Weight: About 30 feet long and 3-4 tons Diet: Plants Distinguishing Characteristics: Large size; broad, flat beak; occasional bipedal posture

Practicality over Aestheticism In Alice Walkers Everyday Use Essay

Practicality over Aestheticism In Alice Walkers Everyday Use - Essay Example This is due not only because Maggie has remained at home with her mother, but because Maggie has learned the skills necessary to their normal existence, skills passed down from preceding generations. Dee shows an interest in family heritage as well, but her exposure to academic and social movements has shifted her priorities to the African connection rather than the African-American roots of her immediate family. This paper will examine how Walker displays a partiality for practical applications of heritage rather than abstract academic curiosity. Dee's degree of distance from her family becomes apparent as soon as she arrives at the house. Her first action is to take a series of photographs to document her family and the domicile, and " never takes a shot without making sure that the house is included." Dee then explains to her family that her name is now Wangero Leewanika Kemanjo, citing that her old name was decreed by her 'oppressors' presumably she and her companion are recent members of the Muslim movement, given that the man greets the mother with the phrase "Asalamalakim." Dee claims the churn top and dasher from the dairy churn - not noticing that they are still needed - to incorporate into some type of artistic table. Dee then wants to claim hand-stitched patchwork quilts semn together by several generations of the family, with the intent to display them at her house by hanging them behind glass. The mother, as narrator, not only shows a knowledge of the family heritage, but still lives in accordance with it. In the very first scene, she expresses an appreciation for her swept yard, saying "It is like an extended living room. When the hard clay is swept clean" The churn top that Dee wants is described as having "the milk in it clabber by now," implying that the churn is an appliance that still gets frequent use in the household. Her slight favoritism for Maggie is revealed in her defending Maggie's claim on the quilts. In the past, Dee was offered a quilt and disdained to take it; the future of the quilts has since been assigned as a sort of dowry for Maggie's eventual marriage to a boy named John Thomas. When Dee left to go to college in Augusta, Maggie remained at home and has become saturated with family culture. She has encyclopedic knowledge of family history: when Maggie recalls Aunt Dee's first husband Henry, called stash, whittled the churn dash, Dee observes that "Maggie's brain is like an elephant's." Maggie herself is a walking connection to the family history, for her burn scars came from the destruction of the girls' childhood house. Most importantly, Maggie remained with her family and learned the skills of her preceding matriarchs. Not only has Maggie communed with both her grandmother and her aunt in the actual making of these quilts, she has acquired the skill of sewing them and is now able to pass the knowledge down to following generations. Opponents of this interpretation would argue that the narrator's perceptions are not only slanted, but hypocritical. They perhaps would argue that the mother's fantasy about meeting her daughter on television indicates a merging of history and progress, with a secret yearning for progress. Another argument could be made that the

BHS 499 (Senior Capstone Project) Module 1 CBT - Essay Example According to Brennan, Leape & Laird in 1991 and cited by the World Health Organization (2004), a Harvard study reported that 4% of patients encountered some kind of harm in the hospital while about 70% of cases of adverse events led to short-lived disability among patients and 14% of such incidents resulted lead to death The Institute of Medicine or IOM added that annually, "medical errors" reached about 44 000 and 98 000 in hospitals of the USA. Ehsani, Jackson, and Duckett (2006) reported that in Australia alone, an estimated direct costs related to managing adverse patient cases reach up to more than $2 billion per annum. This concerns are very significant because globally, safety and better health of individuals are their basic inherent rights that healthcare institutions must effectively deliver to them. organization (Estes Park Institute, 2008), inappropriate conduct can never be tolerated and continuously being improved. Hindle, Braithwaite and Ledema (2005) emphasized that fatigue, carelessness or lack of knowledge are common factors that resulted care providers to create errors. Although majority of errors are less likely due to behavior but are widely the consequence of underlying factors which are considered as barriers to effective teamwork. Bender (2000) argues also that poor communications among many patients, health care givers and hospital management lead to errors. Gui, Shiew, Bidlake, Cheruvu, Subak-Sharpe, and Fiennes (1999) added that ineffective communication between general practitioners and hospital in some cases often lead to patient safety problems. Finally, adequate reimbursement from insurance carriers is very essential in the healthcare industry as this help manage client's health care expenses and prevent major financial burdens if and when, illness or injury occur. But, millions of citizens' medical coverage is not enough or have no health insurance. Some have lost their insurance coverage or just let it lapse the moment they leave their jobs; while others have very limited knowledge that if they can't afford the cost of private insurance, they may avail of certain financial assistance from government programs. These are some of the issues confronted by many individuals and require further attention. Problem Identification 3 REFERENCES Bender, N. (2000). Original writing assignment Essay Example for Free

Original writing assignment Essay It was a beautiful sight, picturesque even, all around were fields of lush green grass with steep hills, deep valleys and evergreen trees. In front of him there was a lake with beautiful sparkling blue water, with beavers going about their daily business, fishes swimming and birds singing. However, as he glanced across to the other side of the lake the boy laid eyes upon an almighty cave. The water on this side of the lake was brown with dead fish floating on the surface. The banks surrounding this part of the lake were simply bare rocks threatening to crush anything with the misfortune of touching them. There were no birds singing or beavers playing. Not a single living thing dwelled on those premises and it was obvious why. Who in there right minds would rather live there than on the stunning view that was just meters from the grim scene? The boy drew his gaze away from the lake and noticed many little buildings with thatched roofs and only one floor. In front of these unusual and certainly old-fashioned buildings stood small families of people all dressed in pretty much the same way. The women wore long brown and white frilly dresses. They all looked like servants. The men also wore brown and white but these were brown tattered trousers and a white V-necked shirt. At a glance down at his attire, the boy noticed he was wearing exactly the same as the other boys that he had seen. He was tired and decided that he should get some rest; a fall from the sky into unfamiliar territory can really take it out of you. The young boy slowly advanced towards the nearest house. He was walking straight towards the 3 people stood in front of it, but the didnt even seem to have noticed him. The boy was only 20 metres from them now but their gaze was still fixed to where he had first landed. He was now only 10 metres from them and could clearly see every single crevice on their skin. That was then he noticed the boy in front was not only dressed identically to him he was also exactly the same height and build with the same blonde hair blue eyes. He even had exactly the same horseshoe shaped birthmark on his neck. The young boy looked extremely confused and turned to the women in a desperate search for an explanation. To his horror, the woman was looking straight through him. This feeling of horror rapidly swapped itself with a feeling of utter disbelief, he recognised this women but where from. He opened is mouth to ask if she too recognised him. However, as soon as the first letter rolled of his tongue and dissipated into the air the almighty rumbling started again. This was much worse then the soft rumbling he had become accustomed to during his dreams. This was a full-blown earthquake style rumbling. The whole ground was shaking. The voices started again. He could finally make sense of the voices Help David, the cave, help it started of with just the women but very quickly the rest of the people joined in. He finally realised where he recognised that woman from. It was his mum, but it wasnt. It couldnt be it had to be a bad dream. The voices were unbelievably loud now. He could not take much more of this. David dropped to his knees willing himself to wake up. He didnt. Of course, he didnt: He couldnt. There was only one thing he could do. The young boy sprinted to the cave, as soon as his size 7 shoes made contact with the cold grey stone the voices stopped, and the rumbling subsided. The inside of the cave was massive. David was standing in what seemed to be an ally. It had a grey floor and red-stone wall. In this alley of a cave ran a small, dirty brown stream. David decided to follow the stream. The silence was deafening. He was right in the centre of his worst nightmares yet the scene he was now living resembled his dreams in no way what so ever. He was expecting an increasingly loud rumble as he became ever closer to the source of all his sleepless nights. However, it was in no way at all like this. All David could hear was the splat as his feet slapped against the wet floor. All he could do was walk straight into the caves belly, he could not go back outside, he couldnt face the screaming. He had to sort this, now, once and for all. The relatively small walk was taking forever, a whole hour seemed to have passed as David walked through the cave however in reality it was closer to a minute. At last, the young boy had reached his destination. It certainly was not what he had expected. He was standing on a floor of grey stone. In front of him was a ring of water. Inside this ring was a small island containing one thing and one thing only; a white, round crystal. A rickety rope bridge hung loosely over the deep murky water. This was the end; he had reached the end of the cave, the end of the nightmares. It had to be something to do with that crystal, but what? David had obviously made his mind up as he cautiously walked to the bridge. He checked the ropes, it seemed secure enough but there was only one way to find out. He raised his foot and slowly but surely placed his foot on to the bridge. As soon as his foot connected with the nearly rotten wood an almightily high-pitched scream pierced through the silence, the rumbling once again shook Davids brain, and a short stab of bright light temporarily illuminated the area before subsiding into a low shimmer. The rumbling didnt stop, it got considerably worse. The bridge was shaking; water was spraying from the stream in huge waves. He had to keep going, this torture had to end. David lunged and grabbed the crystal. A searing pain swarmed through Davids entire body. A brilliant light blinded him. Everything went white. David could no longer hear the high-pitched screams; he did not feel the ice-cold water flooding over the top of him. The rumbling stopped, so did the screaming and the crystal returned to the dull colourless state in which it started. David was nowhere to be seen.   All this happened 14 years ago. I have been all alone here ever since, still experiencing the same horrific dreams. Although now its all changed. You are here. The man thrust his hands forwards, palms out. There was writing burnt into the skin. Help David Our Saviour. Comparing and Contrasting High School Teachers and College Professors E

Most people see teachers and professors in the same light. They perform similar tasks. They teach. However, they are separated by a fine line of distinction. High school teachers help a student build a foundation of knowledge, and train the student to focus on learning. College professors help to shape and define a student’s foundation of knowledge, and challenge the student to cultivate the mind. High school teachers and college professors have similar goals and guidelines, but they take a differing approach to achieving the end result. The way the class is conducted, academic expectations, and view of student responsibility are a few of the contrasts between high school teachers and college professors. A high school class and a college class are conducted in different ways. In high school, teachers exercise control over the flow of information, while college professors encourage the student to seek out pertinent information. Throughout the year, a high school teacher will remind the student of upcoming due dates and assignment requirements. If a student misses a test or homework assignment, the teacher will provide missing notes or study guides so that the student is kept up to date with the rest of the class. For example; when I was in high school, I missed a week of school to go on vacation with my family. My mother spoke with my teacher before we left and he agreed to let me turn in my homework when I returned to class. Furthermore, my teacher allowed me to make up the single quiz that I missed during my absence. Neither the late homework, nor the missed quiz reflected in my grade. A college professor would have made me choose between a good grade and a vacation with my family. In contrast, the college professor... ...udent to monitor their own progress and find solutions to problems as they arise. A college professor will not listen to excuses, nor will the consequences of failure be withheld. For example; I failed a math final by a mere six points, but the rules dictate that a c minus is not passing. It was my responsibility to realize that I needed help with math before I took that final. I had to face the consequences and take the course again. A high school teacher provides a foundation of knowledge in preparation for the higher expectations of college. The college professor works to encourage independent learning, critical thinking, and self reliance. High school teachers and college professors may have differing points of view, but both affect the world as a whole. Henry Adams once said â€Å"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.’
